We are a group of experienced engineers and biologists with industrial engineering and design and healthcare background. Our interest in fluid, thermal, energy science and technology grew over several decades. The AirAquality airwasher project began a few years ago in Brazil, at our sister company "AquAr Climatizadores Ltd.-ME". The product development was funded by a State Foundation for Research Support (FAPESP) Grant within the Innovation for Small Business program, and a complete lab was set in a business incubator in the city of Campinas. The facilities include instrumentation and data acquisition systems for measuring the following characteristics:

• - Airflow capacity
• - Temperature reduction capacity
• - Humidification efficiency
• - Particle collection efficiency of inhalable, thoracic and respirable particles*
• - Organic live matter absorption (biological tests with airborne fungi)
• - Droplet size and count measurements
• - Sound level

*Air-born particles are typically characterized by size and deposition in the various parts of the respiratory system:

• - Inhalable particles are particles deposited in the nose, mouth, pharynx and larynx, having an aerodynamic size greater than 100 microns.
• - Thoracic particles are particles deposited in the trachea, bronchus, and having an aerodynamic size of 10-100 microns.
• - Respirable particles are particles deposited in the lower portion of the lung sacks or bronchioles, and having an aerodynamic size of 4-10 microns.

All assays were performed by a highly specialized team of collaborators. Besides providing practical results useful for product development, one scientific paper has been published to date and more will come.
